Monotypes | Print Demonstration by Katherine McDowell

January 18, 2019

Katherine McDowell, Lake Monotype 324, monotype

Katherine D. McDowell is a versatile visual artist currently focusing on monotype printmaking – handmade, one-of-a-kind prints made by applying ink to a plate and running it through a hand-cranked press with high-quality printmaking paper. Her current series of over 400 prints, “Lake Monotypes”, has been widely shown and purchased since its inception in 2008.  Prints from the “Lake Monotype” series have been selected for 6 solo exhibitions in Oregon and accepted into 21 national juried group exhibitions.

Katherine will be in the gallery for our Print Sale Saturday January 26th from 1:30 to 4:30 demonstrating the monotype process. This demonstration is free and open to the public, all are welcome to join.

The Rental Sales Gallery, Portland Art Museum recognizes and honors the Indigenous peoples of this region on whose ancestral lands the museum now stands.

These include the Willamette Tumwater, Clackamas, Kathlemet, Molalla, Multnomah and Watlala Chinook Peoples and the Tualatin Kalapuya who today are part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, and many other Native communities who made their homes along the Columbia River.

We also want to recognize that Portland today is a community of many diverse Native peoples who continue to live and work here. We respectfully acknowledge and honor all Indigenous communities - past, present, future - and are grateful for their ongoing and vibrant presence.
