By creating a continuously shifting flow of shapes and colors, I absorb and connect with nature. Using interlocking shapes, I weave a complex pattern of branches, leaves, ripples, and shadows. I interpret what I see to make sense out of complexity and convey a sense of place. Painting is a joy.

Sarah was raised in Berkeley, CA where she discovered a passion for painting when she was in high school. She studied painting and design at California College of Arts and Crafts, and later completed her degree in fine art at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She has worked as a graphic designer, calligrapher, and illustrator in Berkeley, Madison, and Austin TX. Sarah became a full time painter since moving to Portland, OR in 1993.

The Rental Sales Gallery, Portland Art Museum recognizes and honors the Indigenous peoples of this region on whose ancestral lands the museum now stands.

These include the Willamette Tumwater, Clackamas, Kathlemet, Molalla, Multnomah and Watlala Chinook Peoples and the Tualatin Kalapuya who today are part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, and many other Native communities who made their homes along the Columbia River.

We also want to recognize that Portland today is a community of many diverse Native peoples who continue to live and work here. We respectfully acknowledge and honor all Indigenous communities - past, present, future - and are grateful for their ongoing and vibrant presence.
