Monster Drawing Rally at the Portland Art Museum

The Monster Drawing Rally is by far one of my favorite events of the summer. It’s bananas. Seventy five local artists get together and draw in the courtyard of the Portland Art Museum, and whatever they create immediately goes up for sale. Every piece is a flat $35. If more than one person wants the same piece, you draw straws. All funds raised go to support educational programs at the museum, so not only do you attend a fabulous party, observe creativity in action, and get a heck of a deal on original art, but it all goes to a good cause. It’s a win win win!

This year, six of the artists participating are from the RSG. These pieces won’t be for sale that night, but I’m sure they’ll be creating new works that are just as lovely. Hope to see you all there!

The Rental Sales Gallery, Portland Art Museum recognizes and honors the Indigenous peoples of this region on whose ancestral lands the museum now stands.

These include the Willamette Tumwater, Clackamas, Kathlemet, Molalla, Multnomah and Watlala Chinook Peoples and the Tualatin Kalapuya who today are part of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, and many other Native communities who made their homes along the Columbia River.

We also want to recognize that Portland today is a community of many diverse Native peoples who continue to live and work here. We respectfully acknowledge and honor all Indigenous communities - past, present, future - and are grateful for their ongoing and vibrant presence.
